I believe that effective therapy occurs when the models/frameworks are evidence based and when there is a good therapeutic alliance between therapist and client. I believe it is important to build that trust and to work at the goals and pace that are set by the client.
I have worked as a cognitive behavioural psychotherapist for over 10 years. Since qualifying in Australia, I have worked for the NHS, private sector, forensic settings and in educational settings.
I first qualified in Australia, initially working in a forensic setting within the private sector, facilitating groups and individual therapy, working with depression and anxiety, offending behaviour and addictions. I went on to work in addictions in a residential program for adolescents and as a clinician in the Victorian education system for a group of primary schools, working with challenging behaviours and developmental disorders.
Since coming to the U.K. 12 years ago, I initially worked in the NHS in an adult community psychiatric setting. I have a special interest in exposure work, as well as personality disorder and early intervention with severe and enduring mental illness, trauma and psychosis. I am accredited with the BABCP as a Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapist, with the BPS and also with the Australia Psychologist Board.
My recent post was as the Lead Therapist for the Young Person’s Inpatient Unit, Nightingale Hospital, Central London where I provided individual therapy and facilitated group therapy on YPU, adult general psychiatry and adult eating disorder inpatient units as well as outpatients. Recently, I developed and facilitated a family psycho-education and support group, as well as workshops in schools around mental health.
I am particularly passionate about working with OCD, childhood and complex traumas, eating disorders and psychosis. The primary models/ frameworks I work from are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, EMDR, Schema Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
