I am an CBT, EMDR and Schema Therapist with over 16 years of experience within the NHS and overseas. My experience is mainly working with clients with depression, anger, anxiety and substance use
Book a sessionI work primarily using a blended approach of Schema Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) due to the complementary nature of these theories.
I feel the most important stage of therapy is understanding what coping styles are there and why, making a clear map of how this presents within your life.
This helps bring understanding to times which can often feel confusing or scary and makes sense of your experience.
We then work on balancing all parts by enhancing parts which bring us joy and healthy relationships, whilst managing parts which tend to criticise or control.
We also explore different strategies or techniques to help manage our unhelpful patterns.
Using EMDR alongside this to heal the trauma which drives many of these modes also helps us to be able to move forwards and to let go of some of the experiences which have affected us for so long.
I also use EMDR as a stand-alone therapy to target traumatic events, which underlie so many of the presentations that I see.
EMDR allows people to process experiences without having to discuss the trauma at length and as part of the process, the client brings their own adaptive way of seeing the trauma.
The parts work also compliments EMDR as often our protective parts show up, as they have often been there in the background trying to manage the trauma the best they can.
Finding a way to make space for them or to even acknowledge their existence can often be enough to allow processing to be completed fully.
I have a background in mindfulness so can hold the emotional therapeutic space to allow you to bring what you most need to, without judgment.
Feedback I regularly receive is that I'm authentic, warm and approachable.
Clients have also feedback that they found our sessions enjoyable and through our work have gained good insight into what led them to therapy.
