Book a sessionHi, I’m Richard. I am a Clinical Psychologist, and I work with a range of people who have had challenging moments in their lives. My specialties include supporting people who have experienced trauma/PTSD, common mental health problems, life transitions, chronic health conditions, or life-changing injuries. I have worked in the NHS for over 10 years, assisting patients in a wide variety of circumstances, including those undergoing treatment for conditions such as cancer and diabetes, HIV, as well as those in palliative care and surgical settings. I have encountered a range of issues including anxiety, low mood and depression, loss, grief, and trauma. I currently work in a haematology service supporting those affected by bleeding disorders and those impacted by the infected blood scandal. I have worked with people from the LGBTQ+ community for many years and adopt an affirmative approach to issues of sexuality and gender. I also have expertise in supporting people who live with dyslexia, autism, ADHD, and other neurodivergent presentations. In this work, I often help people understand how they perceive the world and how they can navigate a 'neurotypical' world without burning out. I have expertise in evidence-based approaches to support people with the difficulties they face. The models I work with include CBT, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Narrative Therapy. I am trained to assess what you are going through and how best to tailor therapy to meet your needs. My underlying approach is a compassionate, strength-focused therapy to help you grow. My key focus is helping you understand what happened to you, what sense you make of that, and how you want to move forward. If you find yourself struggling to make sense of things, lost in grief or trauma, or simply feeling stuck, I may be able to help you.
