I have more than 20 years post-qualification experience providing effective therapy for adults experiencing psychological and mental health difficulties both in the NHS and private practice.
Book a sessionSince qualifying in 2002 I have spent my career working with adults experiencing psychological difficulties. During my 20 year career in the NHS I worked in community mental health teams providing therapy for people with complex psychological problems and mental health diagnosis. For the last 18 years I have also had a small private practice working with less severe presentations. As such I am experienced at working with a wide range of problems including anxiety and panic, low self esteem and confidence, loss and bereavement, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), difficulties resulting from childhood abuse and neglect (C-PTSD), self destructive/harming behaviours, trauma and dissociation, stress related difficulties, loss of purpose and meaning, depression, work and relationship difficulties, anger problems, difficult life changes, phobia's, and severe mental health diagnosis. I was fortunate that the university where I trained encouraged a breadth and depth of thinking about people, their difficulties and healing which matched my own curiosity of all aspects of human experience. As such I draw upon many different ideas to inform my work including attachment, psychodynamic, humanistic, Jungian, schema-focused and systemic theories and approaches. I also use CBT, mindfulness and DBT tools to help relieve symptoms and increase coping skills as required. I have further training in the foundations of psychosynthesis psychotherapy which includes the transpersonal in its understanding of distress, growth and connection. This academic knowledge has been embedded with a life long commitment to my own journey of personal growth as well as learning from my clients. Whether it is that you require a directive symptom focused/coping approach, guiding through your journey of trauma healing, or something in-between then I seek to provide an effective integrative approach that fits with your individual difficulties, ways of working and hopes for the outcome of therapy.
