About me

Kirsty recognises psychological difficulties as an understandable response to challenging life experiences, and helps individuals to make sense of their experiences and difficulties to find a way forward. She believes it is important to help individuals identify and harness their own strengths alongside developing new strategies throughout therapy. Kirsty has over ten years of experience working clinically in community mental health, in-patient, outpatient and physical health services in the NHS. She is a registered Practitioner Psychologist with the HCPC and an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with the BABCP. Since completing Clinical training, Kirsty has specialised in working with older adults and individuals affected by ill health. Kirsty also has experience of providing psychological support to adults experiencing a range of emotional, behavioural and psychological difficulties, including stress, low mood, anxiety (panic, worry, health anxiety), low self-esteem and difficult life events such as bereavement, work-related stress and burnout. Kirsty has a special interest in the impact of physical health difficulties on psychological functioning and is passionate about supporting individuals who are experiencing health related emotional difficulties. She has considerable experience supporting young people, adults and families living with acute, chronic and complex health conditions, including: cancer, kidney failure, arthritis and blood disorders. Kirsty is able to provide support around adjustment to a major life event or diagnosis, managing physical symptoms (e.g. pain/fatigue), living with uncertainty, adapting to changes in functioning, anxiety, low mood, grief and loss, and reintegrating to life after illness. Kirsty draws flexibly on a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches in her work, including CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) in order to facilitate adjustment and bring about change.
