Within the therapeutic process, Shilpa pays attention to the client's narrative of personal, familial, sociocultural DNA and influences.
Book a sessionI work in a flexible, collaborative way and strive towards an egalitarian therapeutic alliance. Within the therapeutic process, I pay attention to the client's narrative of personal, familial, sociocultural DNA and influences. By exploring, addressing these experiences, I facilitate clients to weave in (or reframe) their learnings into forging a more congruent present, one that reorient their life towards self-care, authenticity and connectedness. As a Counselling Psychologist, my foundations lie in the humanistic psychology. I have strong roots in person centred practice. The principles of Empathy, Unconditional positive regard and pursuit of Congruence anchors me as a Therapist. Thereon, based on the client's specific needs, I draw from and apply modalities such ACT and Mindfulness based Therapy towards formulation and intervention. When relevant, I also return to my knowledge of 1. Attachment Theory 2. EFT 3. Transactional Analysis and 4. Schema Theory. This supports me with a deeper understanding of the client's narrative and facilitates the formulation process. I enjoy integrating the knowledge of various modalities but I always aim at keeping the therapeutic process simple, outcome-focussed and client-centred. My identity and professional stance as a Counselling Psychologist is underpinned by three decades of cross-cultural life experiences (domestic and overseas). This has shaped my understanding of and learning from diverse economical, socio-cultural and religious contexts to holistic health and congruent living. As a private practitioner, it has driven my commitment to the discipline of psychotherapy and advocacy of ethical practice in client care.
