Approach

Aneesa prefers time limited, goal oriented therapy, as she understands therapy is a significant investment and people generally like to feel better as soon as possible. In your initial assessment, she will listen to understand the changes you are hoping to make, understand the wider context of your life, and share her recommended treatment plan. It’s not easy asking for professional help and opening up to a stranger about all the things that make you feel vulnerable. Aneesa does her best to create a non-judgemental, warm, and collaborative space for you to feel comfortable, and regularly invites feedback at the end of every session. Aneesa is also passionate about culturally inclusive therapy and has published research in this area. She has been interviewed by the BBC several times as an expert in culturally inclusive practice. In her clinical work, this means that she embraces talking about your religious faith, cultural background, spiritual beliefs, or any experiences of racism or discrimination, and will tailor the approach and techniques to fit with this.

Experience

As a dual qualified Clinical and Counselling psychologist, Aneesa has the highest level of training and specialises in treatment of anxiety using a range of evidence based therapies, including CBT and other scientifically supported models. She has worked in adult mental health, employee well being, and long term health conditions in the NHS in senior level specialist posts, and continues with her NHS work part time. With 13 years’ post qualified experience, Aneesa also provides clinical supervision to other psychologists, counsellors, therapists, and trainees.
