I believe deeply that therapy can support healing, growth and recovery from adversity, trauma and emotional distress, helping us to reconnect with feelings of safety and connection in the present.
Book a sessionHi, my name is Paul. I am an experienced psychotherapist trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), CFT (Compassion Focused Therapy) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy). I integrate elements of these therapy approaches to create an intervention that is responsive and matched to your individual needs and hopes for therapy. My background and core professional training was as an Occupational Therapist (OT) working in mental health, informed by person centred approaches. My approach to therapy is trauma and attachment informed. This means therapy is based on nurturing an awareness of your difficulties within the context of your unique life story. I offer a non-judgemental space to explore whatever difficulties you may have with curiosity, compassion and sensitivity. These may be difficulties in the present, such as depression, anxiety, anger, traumatic events, relationship challenges and loss. They may also be linked to the past and childhood experiences such as abuse, neglect and abandonment. I have specialist training, experience and interest in working with traumatic experiences (PTSD, complex PTSD and attachment trauma) and difficulties associated with self criticism and shame. I am also trained in Polyvagal Theory, a neurobiological (mind-body connection) approach which works with chronic nervous system dysregulation. This may present in many ways including frequent overwhelm, shut down and disconnection from others.
