About me

As a Clinical Psychologist I have worked with children, young people, and their families for over 20 years. I have experience working in mental health, learning disability and paediatric services, working directly with children and young people, or indirectly through schools, carers and/or family members. Every person I meet is unique and each relationship developed in therapy is different. For this reason I strongly believe that the work starts with getting to know each other and what the goals of therapy are. Only then, once comfortable with each other, can we start to think about the 'how' of therapy. This will involve sharing the recommended guidance or evidence base and together thinking about how it might fit or be adapted to our context for the goals that have been set. Sometimes, I find that formal therapy isn't needed, as the assessment and shared understanding can be enough to manage the initial emotional distress or create the desired change. My core training is rooted in psychology and person centred practice, with my initial therapeutic training drawing on CBT, systemic practice and Positive Behaviour Support. With 20 years of experience and continuing professional development, my skill set has broadened to incorporate skills and techniques from PACE (attachment based work), specific parenting interventions and third wave therapies (e.g ACT, CFT) .
