Approach
Dr Victoria Lawson is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with over 10 years’ experience working within NHS and Social Care settings. She works with adults and young people of all ages and has experience with individuals, families and couples. Having worked as a Senior Psychologist in the NHS alongside private practice she is experienced in providing a safe and supportive environment for people experiencing a wide range of challenges. Traumatic experiences, relationship difficulties, loss and bereavement are key triggers that can bring people to treatment and Dr Lawson works with people struggling with these areas.
Experience
Dr Lawson is trained interactively, meaning she can draw upon a range of evidence based therapeutic models to best suit your needs and goals including CBT, third wave CBT, schema informed therapy, humanistic counselling and EMDR. As her practice has developed she has increasingly found introducing more compassion and acceptance based approaches extremely helpful for people managing hard times. She was fortunate to receive specialist training and supervision in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy when a research therapist for University College London in their feasibility study for treating Generalised Anxiety Disorder and has found this an invaluable addition to clinical practice.
Victoria has a special interest with working with individuals struggling to manage traumatic experiences and PTSD and is trained to deliver EMDR to both adults and young people. She works with people struggling with anxiety, low mood, OCD, chronic pain and physical health problems, sleep difficulties, eating issues, complex bereavement and relationship difficulties. Dr Lawson offers a warm, supportive space and will put your needs and goals at the centre of therapy.
