About me

Dr Fernandes's approach to her work is imbued with a deep respect and appreciation for people and their experiences and a belief that emotional difficulties are inevitable but can be overcome. She believes in the importance of the therapeutic relationship to support people in achieving the changes that they want and that this process can be aided by principles of collaboration, problem solving and hope. Dr Fernandes has trained for 8 years, completing a BSc in Psychology, a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Psychology, a DClinPsych at the University of East London and a Postgraduate Diploma in CBT at Royal Holloway University of London. Dr Fernandes is trained to work with adults, couples and children. She has a specialist interest in working with depression, anxiety and self-esteem problems using a CBT model and a Schema Therapy model with adults. She has, in addition, undertaken training in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy and Couples Therapy for Depression. She is currently working in private practice with people who are suffering from depression and/or anxiety and self-esteem issues, offering assessment and individual or group treatment. Problems she works with include depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, panic, stress and anxiety, health anxiety, generalised anxiety (worry), phobias, hoarding, anger, low self-esteem and low self-confidence, relationship problems and sleep problems. Many of the people who Dr Fernandes works with also have a long term condition, such as diabetes or chronic pain. Dr Fernandes also provides clinical supervision within an NHS context supporting clinical psychologists with their CBT training and with the Tavistock Relationships supporting CBT therapists, Counsellors and Psychologists with their Couple Therapy for Depression training. Dr Fernandes is passionate about supporting both clients and psychologists/therapists with their personal and professional development and wellbeing.
