About me

Carey believes that the relationship between the client and therapist is the primary vehicle for change. She is warm and approachable and seeks to form an authentic connection with her clients where they feel valued and safe. She has been trained in a variety of therapeutic approaches but works from mainly an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) perspective. Carey has been working with people with a range of presenting issues for almost 20 years since starting her therapy career providing low-level CBT interventions to adults with depression and anxiety. She completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Lancaster University where she gained experience of working with a wide variety of clinical issues across the lifespan. Since qualifying she has worked mainly with adults with a range of issues including depression, anxiety, self-esteem problems, OCD, panic, eating disorders and those with interpersonal difficulties. She has extensive experience working in physical health including adjustment to long term illness, chronic pain and issues in palliative illness. She has completed training in CBT, ACT, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Psychodynamic Interpersonal Therapy (PIT) and is currently completing her Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy training.
