My training is in evidence based person centered and relational psychological therapy. I am able to help navigate and negotiate the challenges, uncertainty and losses that physical and mental health conditions can bring to relationships with yourself, your body and other people in your life.
My main focus has been working within NHS services that support people living with chronic and complex health conditions such as neurological conditions, chronic pain, diabetes, specialist weight management and bariatric surgery. I provide support to people and their families with the psychological adjustment to these health conditions and to help negotiate the complexity of health care systems. This work has given an insight into the relationship between physical health and mental health across the lifespan which fascinates me. In addition to this I work as a senior clinical staff member, lecturer at Teesside University on the Clinical and Counselling Psychology Doctorate.
My training and education involves; Doctorate in Counselling Psychology from Teesside University, Certificate in Psychosexual Therapy with Tavistock Relationships (University of East London), Certificate in Adult Bereavement Counselling, Certificate in Child Bereavement Counselling, University, Postgraduate diploma in Psychology and BSc Sociology with Psychology (Teesside University).
I have attended CPD training in; Clinical Supervision (University of East London) Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Workshops in Neuropsychology for Counselling Psychologists, Weight Stigma, Compassion Focused Therapy, Psychological Approaches to Obesity (BDA) Behaviour Change Skills and Interpersonal Mindfulness (Mindful London).
