Approach
Catherine is a warm and approachable clinical psychologist. She works collaboratively using an integrative approach based on the cognitive model. Clients are supported to identify and address mutually understood and agreed treatment goals. She believes that effective and compassionate therapy draws on the foundations of sound evidence based therapy, in conjunction with the principles of acceptance, and the growth of personal psychological self awareness.
Experience
Catherine has been qualified for more than 30 years as a clinical psychologist with competence in whole lifespan approaches. She is experienced in the assessment, formulation and treatment of psychological distress across mild, moderate and severe presentations. She is trained and experienced in psychological interventions including CBT (Accredited with BABCP), Compassion Focussed Therapy, Mindfulness Based CBT, EMDR Level 2, ACT, and existential psychotherapy. Catherine has a special interest in the areas of traumatic grief, PTSD and depression with a career that has provided insights into the challenges of living in family, social or work systems where there is distress, disability or loss.
Within the NHS she has worked in services for people with intellectual and physical disabilities and their families, and in the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) services for adults with mild to moderate psychological distress or non-psychiatric complexity such as long term conditions or adverse childhood experiences.
